Registration definition:

 

 

The registration process in the terrestrial laser scanner context typically involves two distinct steps:  estimation of the registration parameters; and application of the transformation to the entire point cloud. Some or all of the parameters may be observed rather than estimated. Typically the transformation of choice is a 3D rigid body. If there is a reason to believe a scale difference exists between the scanner and objects spaces, then the 3D similarity transformation can be used.
